 Animals of the cold region

Some animals have adapted themselves to the extreme conditions prevailing in their habitats over the centuries and can survive in extreme cold weather.

Some of them are given in this chapter. I have a look on them and know more about them:

1. The fur of an arctic fox is white to blend in to the snow in winter, while in summer it changes to brown.

2. Penguin is a bird that lives in the southern hemisphere. It is an excellent swimmer but cannot fly.

3. Walrus is found in the arctic seas. It is also called a Morse.

4. Seal is a carnivorous mammal found mainly in the cold seas. It is of two types, the earless and the eared.

5. Snowy owl is a white or barred, brown-and-white bird of prey.

6. Polar bear lives in the arctic region and feeds on seals and other animals.

7. Caribou also called reindeer is a mammal found in the northern regions of Europe, North America and Asia.

8. An endangered species, snow leopard is found primarily in the high mountains of Central Asia.
